What makes a tattoo too small?
What makes a tattoo “too small” is usually about how the lines will age over time. For a tattoo to stay readable and beautiful, the lines need enough space between them. When a design is made too small, everything can look lovely on the day it’s done, but as the ink naturally spreads with time, those fine details can blur together. After a few years, the tattoo can start to look like one dark shape instead of a clear image, and that’s definitely not what we want.
My goal is always to make sure your tattoo still looks good in 5, 10, or 20 years, not just on day one. That’s why I sometimes suggest going a bit bigger or simplifying details, so the design can age gracefully on your skin.
What about aftercare?
After your tattoo, I usually wrap it up for a couple of hours to protect it. Once you get home, remove the wrap and gently wash your tattoo with water and a mild, fragrance-free soap, then pat it dry.
Apply a THIN layer of the healing ointment or tattoo aftercare of your choice twice a day to keep it moisturized.
(you can use natural Kawakawa healing balm for example)
You can shower as normal, but avoid soaking your tattoo in baths, pools, or the ocean until it’s fully healed.
(no hot tub for a few weeks, sorry!)
Also, sweat is full of toxins so please don’t run a marathon just after our session.
Avoid scratching or picking at your tattoo, it might get itchy while the scab is created. Protect it from direct sunlight.
With a little care over the next 2–4 weeks (depending on size and amount of dark/colored areas but also on your type of skin), your tattoo will heal beautifully and stay vibrant for years!
How do I get ready for my session?
Come relaxed and well-rested: a good night’s sleep makes everything easier!
Eat something beforehand so you have energy, and wear comfortable clothes that give me easy access to the area we’ll be tattooing (prefer black if you can, ink might splash).
Avoid alcohol or any blood-thinning medication on the day, and bring water, snacks, and a little patience: tattoos take time!
You can shave the area we will work on if needed/if you feel like it, but I can also do it on the spot. With me there is no judgment on bodies or hair, be gentle with yourself, come excited and ready to enjoy the experience.
Do you do covers?
I might be able to do the cover if I feel it’s something I can do properly and to a standard I’m happy with. If I end up saying no, please don’t take it personally: I just want to make sure I only take on projects I can fully commit to and do justice to.
I want colors on my flash
No worries! I’m most of the time happy to add colors. Please book your flash through the custom tattoo form if you want to add colors. You can find the form HERE.

A bit about me
I’m Dïne (pronounce Deen). I’m a tattoo artist, an illustrator and a mum who loves folktales, fantasy worlds, and small creatures with big personalities. I spend my days drawing stories, turning them into tattoos, and occasionally getting way too excited about birds, books, and imaginary worlds.
I work gently, and with a lot of care, especially for people getting their first tattoo. My style sits somewhere between storytelling illustration and fine line tattooing, with a soft spot for nature, magic, and nerdy references.
If you like tattoos with a bit of leafy stuff, a bit of whimsy, and a lot of heart, we’ll probably get along just fine.
About Glenorchy
Tahuna Glenorchy is a small, quiet village at the edge of Lake Whakatipu, surrounded by mountains, forests, and some very cinematic landscapes. If it feels familiar, that’s because it has been the backdrop for quite a few films and series, including Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Sweet Tooth.
It’s slow, peaceful, and a little bit magical, which makes it a pretty perfect place for thoughtful tattoo sessions. There are a couple of lovely cafes, a wonderful local art and souvenir shop filled with locally-made treasures, and some truly stunning walks right on the doorstep.
One important thing to know though: there is no grocery shop in Glenorchy. Come prepared, pack snacks, and consider it part of the adventure.

My Glenorchy studio is calm and private (even if sometime the local white heron is visiting). It’s a space where you can take your time, breathe, and enjoy the process, whether you’re getting your first tattoo or adding a new chapter to your collection.
Glenorchy might just steal your heart.
